Pachmarhi is a popular tourist destination in the Narmadapuram district of Madhya Pradesh,
the second largest state of India. This hidden hill station is also famously known as ‘Satpura ki Rani’,
at approximately 1,067m. Dhupgarh, the highest point in the Satpura Range and the state at
approximately 1,352 m above sea level is a part of the Satpura Biosphere Reserve.

derived from the Hindi words “Panch”, which means five and “mare”, meaning caves. Also, It is a popular
belief that the five Pandava brothers of Mahabharata built the enormous caves on the hilltop while
in exile for thirteen years.

breaking it down into parts, as Jata signifies hair, while Shankar is another name for Lord Shiva. The
ponds, one containing hot water and the other cold, are nurtured by springs in the area. A temple
built in the lap of nature is a must-visit experience of Lord Shiva’s spiritual power as the shivling is
situated in the cave.
Dhupgarh
The highest peak in Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh, and Central India is Dhoopgarh, which is situated in
the Satpura mountain range. 1350m is its altitude. The sunset and dawn experiences there are the
most famous. However, Visiting Dhoopgarh during the monsoon season, when it is shrouded in fine monsoon clouds is best.
Pandav Gufa
Pandav Gufa, located in Pachmarhi, is known for its mythical and historical significance. It is carved
into 5 ancient caves, which shows that the five Pandava brothers lived in the caverns during their
exile, according to folklore. The gardens below the caverns are magnificent, well-kept and delightful.

Chauragarh
One of Pachmarhi’s highest points is this one. It offers a stunning view of the valley below, streams,
waterfalls, and the deep Pachmarhi reserve forest. The Chauragarh Peak, located in Pachmarhi, is
home to a well-known Lord Shiva temple. Hundreds of devotees climb the summit to get to this
location on the day of the Mahashiva Ratri Festival.
Chauragarh Temple is located at the summit of Chauragarh, tucked away among the lush valley and
the undulating trees. The well-known shrine, also known as Chota Mahadeo, devoted to Lord Shiva,
is another name for this temple.
Bee Falls
Bee Falls is one of Pachmarhi’s most well-liked tourist attractions. The entire city is dependent on
this fall to provide clean drinking water. As you trek down hundreds of stairs to reach the fall, you
will be in awe of its magnificence. You find sellers providing tea and snacks around the waterfalls.
Handi Khoh
Handi Koh, a 300-foot deep gorge, is enveloped by dense forests and the soothing sound of murmuring streams. This ravine has been the subject of mythical tales. According to legend, it was once a vast lake that was guarded by a malevolent serpent. However, the serpent was killed by Lord Shiva’s fury, causing the lake to shrink into a small pot or Handi. Satpura National Park
This national park, dispersed over the Satpura Hills, spans a substantial area of the Hoshangabad
district of Madhya Pradesh. The name Satpura, which means “seven hills” in Sanskrit, was given to a collection of hills in the highlands of central India. It spans an area of 524 square kilometres and constitutes a part of the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve.
The deep gorges, unknown woods, and wiggling rivulets of Satpura National Park are home to a vast
range of species, including Paradise Flycatchers, Leopards, Malabar Pied Hornbills, Water Buffaloes,
Barasingha, Malabar Whistling Thrush, Elephants, Honey Buzzard and the Rhesus monkeys.
