The government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is poised to enhance Uttar Pradesh’s road transport infrastructure by introducing 1,000 cutting-edge buses to the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) fleet. In a recent cabinet meeting, a proposal for this significant upgrade received approval, prompting the government to release the second installment of Rs 200 crore to facilitate the modernization of the bus fleet.
In the budget allocation for the fiscal year 2023-24, the UP government earmarked a substantial Rs 400 crore for the purpose of upgrading the state’s road transport. The infusion of funds accelerates the procurement and integration of these state-of-the-art buses into the UPSRTC fleet. Furthermore, it will contribute to enhancing the maintenance and repair infrastructure for the existing buses.
The ambitious timeline set by the state government aims to complete the procurement and integration of all 1,000 buses into the UPSRTC fleet within the financial year 2023-24. The transport commissioner will diligently oversee the entire procurement process, ensuring strict adherence to the regulatory framework established by the Uttar Pradesh government.
Environmental sustainability is a key consideration in this initiative. To minimize carbon emissions, the government plans to obtain necessary environmental approvals in accordance with environmental rules, Acts, and the amended EIA Notification of 2006. Stringent compliance with environmental regulations and court directives is also prioritized.
The introduction of these new buses is anticipated to significantly enhance the travel experience for UPSRTC passengers, promising convenience, comfort, and enjoyment during their journeys.
Simultaneously, the government has initiated the allocation of funds for various projects at the State Transport Appellate Tribunal in the fiscal year 2023-24. An amount of Rs 82 lakh has been released, post administrative and financial approval, for expenses related to transfer travel, vehicle maintenance, petrol procurement, and the revised salaries of government personnel. The utilization of allocated funds will strictly adhere to the guidelines outlined in the budget manual and financial handbook. This multifaceted approach underscores the government’s commitment to a comprehensive enhancement of the state’s transportation infrastructure.
