Noida: The Uttar Pradesh government has recently decided to explore the possibility of establishing a unified helpline for all expressways and highways across the state. The aim is to simplify and streamline the process for commuters in distress by eliminating the confusion associated with determining which helpline number to call during emergencies.
Currently, expressways under the jurisdiction of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) operate under a common helpline number, which is 1033. However, expressways managed by state governments and various other agencies often have their own distinct helpline numbers. These numbers can vary in length, ranging from four to ten digits, adding to the complexity for travelers during critical situations.
Commuters have expressed their desire for a single, concise, and easy-to-remember helpline number. They argue that just as police and other emergency services have established common helplines across the country, major road networks like expressways and highways should also have a unified emergency helpline. This would not only simplify the process for individuals in need but also reduce the time it takes for a response.
Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of Noida Sector 51, emphasized that a standardized helpline number would eliminate the need to search the internet for contact information during an emergency, leading to quicker and more efficient assistance for those in distress. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing road safety and emergency response services for the benefit of commuters across the state.
