Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) launched free bus service scheme for women in Nilgiris on Sunday. Transport Minister S S Sivasankar, Tourism Minister K Ramachandran, and Nilgiris MP A Raja joinedly launched the service at the Udhagamandalam bus stand. According to sources, TNSTC operates 99 buses, covering a distance of 35 KM within the district, benefiting approximately 41,000 women. Addressing the gathering at the launch event, Sivasankar stated that an average of 50 lakh women avail themselves of the services across the state every day, resulting in the issue of 440 crore free tickets since the scheme’s inception in 2021.
